Not, perhaps, our proudest potty training moment

October 30, 2007 Jordana

At 3:18 today, I took Ngaire to the potty and drained her. Then I plunked her down in front of a Bob so I could have half an hour to make some phone calls and get a lasagna recipe off the Internet. When I came down at 3:46, Ngaire

• had crawled up on the windowsill;
• had peed all over said windowsill, down the wall and onto the carpet;
• and was rolling in said pee and even (gak) licking it.

As she was unpleasantly damp and plastered, I grabbed her by the armpits and put her in the bathtub, where I stripped her down and turned on the water for a bath. Then, while the tub filled, I dashed downstairs to conduct triage on the windowsill, wall and carpet.

When I went back up to turn off the water, Ngaire had pooped in her bath.

Does anyone else ever have a day when you wonder when the REAL mommy is going to show up?

And yes, this story is indeed going to get dusted off for every future boyfriend our lovely daughter brings home. Several times, if we don’t like him.

    MUCH HUGS!! And lasagna. And chocolate. And really good coffee. And probably a shot or two of Vodka for good measure.

    I *think* I remember pooping in the bathtub when I was two or three. Oh, the horror!

    Let us never speak of this again.

    Oh the horror! There are going to be days like that, but I spend most of my time in a state of denial about them.

    That is disgusting and yet somehow not at all surprising!

    My mom used to put me & my little brother in the bath together. I never did understand why Mom got so mad when he drank the bathwater (suffice it to say I *do* get it now) … I also remember him pooping in the tub with me in it. Peer pressure does wonderful things for potty training!

    My mom recently reflected that these are the happy years of poop at close quarters. Both the Banana & the Papaya have numerous proud moments of pooping in the bathtub (last week, again, with ALL of the bath toys in there at the same time)… and hotel pool (just two days ago)… and one memorable instance in the public camping showers at a national park (perhaps a good idea to always wear flip flops in public showers). Just hope you never have to deal with diarrhea in the bathtub. That’s enough to make you rethink future children.
